Ride the masters then watch the world champions
The 2010 Australian Masters Road Championships will be held in Ballarat from Friday 24 to Tuesday 28 September, one week prior to the UCI World Road Race Championships. This gives masters riders the opportunity to not only compete against the best in their category, but then go on the watch the best in the world of professional cycling.
The masters championships is expected to attract over 800 Victorian, interstate and international competitors across the five days, with male and female competitors to contest the Road Race, Time Trial and Criterium disciplines.
The fastest growing category of competitive cycling membership in Victoria and Australia, Masters cycling caters for riders over 30 years of age. Forty per cent of CycleSport Victoria's membership are Masters, with this figure having quadrupled in only eight years.
These championships will be conducted with support from the Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club and the largest Masters club in Australia, the Melbourne based 'Southern Vets' Cycling Club.
Scheduling has allowed the championships to coincide with the 2010 UCI Road World Championships to be staged in Melbourne and Geelong from 29 September. It is hoped that many of the entrants will remain in Ballarat after the Masters Championships and commute to Geelong for the World Championships.
