Nutty energy snack to cut sugar cravings
Hobart personal trainer, James Kerrison is renowned for his tough workouts and outstanding client results. He likes to reward his athletes and devised this delicious nutty snack that is full of energy and is made from only the best ingredients. He was kind enough to let us post it here for you.
Nutty Energy Snack
½ Cup Almond Butter
½ Cup Ground Flaxseeds (Flax Meal)
½ Cup Tahini (I used unhulled, but it was a bit bitter, so it might be better to use hulled)
¼ Cup Chocolate Protein Powder
¼ Cup Ground Pumpkin Seeds
¼ Cup Real Maple Syrup
1 Teaspoon Cacao Powder (Use cocoa if you must, but cacao is 100x better!)
Combine all ingredients in a medium size bowl, or you could probably use a food processor. Add the smallest bit of water if they are a bit dry, or a bit more flax meal if they are too wet.
Scoop a heaped teaspoon and roll into balls. Then roll them in shredded or desiccated coconut. Refrigerate. Eat. (They go well with a hot drink such as tea!)
Calorie count is approximately 95 calories per ball (24 balls per recipe). Fat - 6.5 grams. Carbs - 4 grams. Protein - 5 grams. Fibre - 2.5 grams.
What does all of this mean? Well it means that if you have one or two as a snack for morning or afternoon tea you will be getting more fibre, good fats and protein than any commercially available product on the market. Wash it down with a cup of your favourite tea or coffee and you will be well on the way to eliminating the sugar cravings.
Plus the best thing about these, they taste that good, you will feel as though you are still having that 'naughty' treat even though you aren't! Feel free to try using different nut butters or protein powder to vary the taste. Let me know what you think!
