Lycra and Velcro - not a happy mix in the wash!
Cycle garment care tip number 1 - Never put Velcro items and Lycra together in the washing basket or machine - the two do not mix!
This is because the Velcro attaches itself to the Lycra garment resulting
in garments that are pilled and pulled out of shape. So if you are washing
your cycle gloves, which have Velcro fastened closures, then keep them out
of the same wash as your cycle knicks. The same goes for any garment that
has Velcro used in its construction, such as wind jackets.
Or the better way to protect Lycra garments from Velcro damage is to put the same fabric item(s) in a cotton bag with a sealable top, so that the Velcro cannot grab onto anything during the washing cycle.
