Got your ICE with you?
Most cyclists I know carry their mobile phone with them when they are out on the road. The mobile phone is primarily used to remain in contact with family members, friends, or to call for a cab when you realise that your spare tube is still sitting in the garage when it should be in your saddle bag and you have a flat tube in your hand! It may also be used to call for assistance in case of an emergency for the owner or someone else that requires medical attention - fast.
But what happens if you are in a condition which does not allow you to make an emergency call? Heaven forbid that you have been knocked off your bike and are lying unconscious and in the gutter on the side of the road. The attention of the emergency services has been raised, but no one knows how to contact your nearest and dearest to advise them of the situation.
That's where ICE (In Case of Emergency) may be your best friend. Simply nominate one or more numbers in your mobile phone contact list as ICE1, ICE 2, ICE3 and an emergency services person will be able to notify the appropriate person of your predicament by looking up the ICE numbers in your mobile phone.
It's a fairly simple system that has been proven to work. Save the emergency services some leg work and key your ICE contacts into your phone. It could also save your life.
