Cycle camp for the champions of the future
Sixteen NSW girls recently attended a girl's road cycling camp held at Armidale. According to organisers the event, held from July 1 to 3, was a huge success.
The girls were fortunate to have the NSWIS Women's' Endurance coach Natalie Bates at the camp to impart her valuable knowledge and expertise. On behalf of everyone who attended the camp, thank you Natalie.
On the Saturday morning, participants familiarised themselves with the State Time
Trial course along Dangarsleigh Rd. Later in the morning Keith Wolodko,
exercise physiologist and lecturer from The University of New England,
conducted an informative session in the testing lab at UNE.
With the sun shining, Armidale Cycling Club welcomed the girls to the Saturday afternoon club racing at the Mann St State Criterium course. The girls raced with the locals on the technical clockwise circuit.
Sessions on nutrition and safety were held on Saturday afternoon. The girls all completed a cycle safety quiz. Winners of the quiz were awarded SheSpoke Cycle Wear headbands and socks.
On Sunday morning, the girls headed out to the tough UNE 4.8km road course to test out their climbing, descending, cornering and uphill sprinting! The course is definitely challenging.
